C. Beckett '86 is vice president, legal affairs for the American subsidiary of Paris-based
LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the global disseminator of good taste
through brands like Louis Vuitt
on, Dom Perignon, Veuve Cliquot, Givenchy,
Fendi, Kenzo, Christian Dior and TAG Heuer. To Beckett, her employer's
luxury goods make the work day fun, and the opportunity to work in-house
really excites Beckett. As vice president, legal affairs of LVMH, she says, "I am
closely tied to the business, understanding the priorities of LVMH is
essential." Beckett chiefly guides LVMH in litigation and employment disputes,
yet because of the small size of the legal department, she may find herself
poring over wine and spirits regulatory restrictions one day and advising
LVMH on trademark or antitrust matters the next. This variety originally
attracted Beckett to the position. However, Beckett admits the frequent
trips to Paris , Los Angeles and San Francisco , as well as her Manhattan
office, nicely situated within walking distance of her home and the stores,
are pleasant perks too.
